Immediate Release

The Nevada Department of Education will host the 36th Annual Nevada School Bus Safety Road-eo on Saturday, May 10 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Road-eo is open to the public and will be held at the Clark County School District Northwest Transportation Center, 109023 W. Washburn, Las Vegas, Nevada. The event combines serious training with a fun line-up of competitive events.

The Road-eo is open to every certified school bus driver in Nevada who is currently employed by a school district, private school or charter school. The event encourages enhanced training of drivers and develops public awareness about the responsibilities and abilities needed to drive a school bus. Seventy-five school bus drivers, representing 8 Nevada school districts and 1 Native American Tribe, along with 80 volunteers and judges, are expected to attend and compete in the Road-eo.

Nevada school districts provide transportation to (or bus) approximately 134,000 public school students each day using a fleet of 2,335 school buses, the majority of which run in and around Clark and Washoe Counties. In all, 480,000 school buses transport 25 million elementary and secondary students each day to and from school and log about 5 billion miles traveled.

The Road-eo tests bus driver skills in fourteen different categories through written exams and school bus maneuvers such as student loading, diminishing clearance, off-set alley, railroad crossing, back-up alley, parallel parking and a right and left turn.

Winners in each category will be announced during an awards banquet held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10 at the Aliante Hotel, 7300 Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas. The sponsors of this year's Road-eo include Bus West; Bryson Sales & Service; Q'Straint/Sure-Lok; Webasto; Zonar Systems; Cummins/Rocky Mountain; American Bus Sales; Ricon; Seon; Anderson Dairy; Trans Artic; US Computing; Gatekeeper; SMI and W.W.
