Advanced Technologies Academy's Architectural Design program of study in Las Vegas was awarded the prestigious Excellence in Action award, which recognizes innovative and impactful Career Technical Education (CTE) programs of study across the nation.

"We are very proud of our high-quality CTE programs in Nevada, and the Architectural Design program at the Advanced Technologies Academy in Las Vegas is a premier example of those programs," said Mike Raponi, the Nevada Department of Education CTE Director. "This program provides students learning opportunities in a rewarding career path that is closely aligned with business and industry and with advanced programs in higher education."

Raponi was on hand to present the award to Advanced Technologies Academy representatives at an award luncheon and reception as part of the Advance CTE Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C.on Tuesday. Advanced Technologies Academy was one of 11 programs selected as an "Excellence in Action" award winner, based on its uniquely innovative and effective approach to offering rigorous coursework, authentic and meaningful work-based learning experiences, and supported transitions from secondary to postsecondary education and on to successful careers.

Advanced Technologies Academy received the award in the Architecture & Construction Career Cluster from Advance CTE as a result of their incredible business partnerships that offer mentoring and job-shadowing, a curriculum that is aligned with industry and employer needs, and commitment to demanding academic and technical coursework, providing students with the skills they need for success.

"When you open a CTE program you work hard to make it successful," said Richard Knoeppel, Department Chair Computer Design, Architecture Instructor at Advanced Technologies Academy. "Over the past 21 years I always have felt that our program was preparing students for success once they graduated, but I was always searching for concrete validation that we were doing the right thing by kids.  Being acknowledged by Advance CTE has given us that validation and we are honored to be recognized."

"We are so proud to recognize these amazing programs and the leaders who helped achieve such accomplishments," said Kimberly Green, Executive Director, Advance CTE. "These Excellence in Action award winners have high expectations that result in their students truly being prepared for success in college, careers and life. By shining a national spotlight on these programs, we hope to challenge others to use them as a model for what high-quality CTE looks like and can achieve. "
