Carson City, NV - December 22, 2016

Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Superintendent of Public Instruction, issued this statement today, following the Clark County School District Board of Trustees action filed Wednesday in Carson City District Court. The complaint pertains to regulations that were unanimously approved by the Nevada Board of Education regarding AB394 that was passed by the Nevada Legislature.

“Since the passage of AB394 in the 2015 Legislature, there have been many opportunities for community and school district input through a diverse and thoughtful group of Las Vegas community members who made up the Advisory Committee. Unfortunately, this legal action by the Clark County District Board of Trustees will result in uncertainty and divert time and resources away from the teams of District staff, principals, teachers, parents, and engaged community members as they implement the vision of the broader Clark County community. The Department will remain focused on ensuring every Las Vegas student has access to a great education. We hope the Clark County School District Board of Trustees will join us in this effort to best serve our students, parents and teachers.”
