CARSON CITY, NV –The national Parent Teacher Association (PTA) celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week, today through Friday, and it is a perfect time to thank teachers for the difference they make as educators, innovators and the countless other ways they support our students.

“On behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval who has made our children’s future his top priority and the State of Nevada Board of Education, we pause and reflect on the importance of teachers, the profession, and those teachers who have impacted each of us deeply,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction. “One common thread running through all of us is the impact they have had in the direction of our lives. Every day teachers impact the lives of our children and their work extends far beyond the classroom.”

As part of National Teacher Week, John Tierney, Nevada’s Michael Landsberry Teacher of the Year, will be attending the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) National Teacher of the Year announcement  in Washington DC. Tierney, from Adobe Middle School in the Elko County School District, is joining other state winners for a week of professional development that includes a ceremony at the White House.
