The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) has sent high school counselors application forms for the 2018 U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship Program (USSYP) sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. NDE will be selecting two delegates to represent Nevada in this annual all-expense paid trip for a week in Washington D.C. in the spring of 2018. Each student will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship, to be presented by Nevada Senators Dean Heller and Catherine Cortez-Masto.

Interested juniors and seniors involved in student government and political science programs should contact their guidance counselors who will administer the application process. Scholarship applications must be submitted by high school counselors no later than October 13.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students to learn about the leadership and operations of the U.S. Senate and the Federal Government. This is an intensive week-long educational experience intended to nurture and encourage those with the talent and energy for the higher purpose of public service.
