Las Vegas, NV - April 27, 2017

Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction, and John Haynal, Clark County Franchise Principal, will announce Friday the three schools that will become Nevada’s first Autonomy Schools.

The designation, which applies to all three of the elementary schools Haynal supervises; Dr. C. Owen Roundy, Vegas Verdes, and Elaine Wynn, is the result of Senate Bill 92, which passed during the 2015 legislative session. SB 92 grants school leaders, who are found to be highly effective, certain flexibilities to accomplish school improvement goals. After an extensive external evaluation, Haynal met the criteria to lead his campuses in intense rapid school improvement programs.

  • Who: Canavero, Mike Barton, Ph.D., CCSD Chief Student Achievement Officer Haynal
  • When: Friday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m.
  • Where: Elaine Wynn Elementary School, 5655 Edna Ave., Las Vegas
