Office of Early Learning and Development Announces Five Star Rating of UNLV/CSUN Preschool

Immediate Release

Las Vegas, NV April 11, 2017

The Nevada Silver State Stars Quality Rating & Improvement System (QRIS) program is excited to announce the Five-Star rating of the UNLV/CSUN Preschool.

“Congratulations to the UNLV/CSUN team on achieving the highest QRIS rating,” said Patti Oya, Director of Early Learning & Development at the Nevada Department of Education (NDE). “This Five-Star rating demonstrates the effort and commitment that the UNLV/CSUN staff has made to go above and beyond to provide the highest quality of care and education for the children in their program.”

Star rating systems are a method to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early learning settings. These initiatives are designed with two primary purposes:

• To assist early learning programs, regardless of their setting, with efforts to provide high quality care and education.
• To help families identify high quality programs for their young children.

The Nevada Silver State Stars QRIS creates a culture of continuous quality improvement for Nevada's child care programs. Nevada’s QRIS is administered by NDE’s Office of Early Learning and Development.

"The UNLV/CSUN Preschool staff work incredibly hard to ensure that the high quality of education we provide to our children demonstrates caring commitment and research based practices," Director Dr. Claire Tredwell said. "We are so proud to serve our community, and delighted to have received this Five-Star rating. It's a testament to our work in collaboration with the Office of Early Learning and Development and community partners to provide the best possible model in early childhood education for all children. The QRIS process is a valuable support system in reaching desired goals and maintaining quality in our state."
