For Immediate Release

Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction released the following statement on Bellwether Education Partners review of Nevada’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state plan:

“Today Nevada received another strong endorsement that our ESSA state plan charts an appropriate course toward becoming the fastest improving state in the nation,” Canavero said. “Among the 17 states reviewed, our ESSA plan was the fourth highest rated by the team of experts assembled by Bellwether Education Partners. I’m grateful for all the members of our state education community that worked to create a plan that elevates our expectations to be commensurate with those our students will face upon graduation.”
Nevada assembled teams from across the state to contribute to the development of the ESSA plan. “Our Workgroups and the Advisory Group deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their tireless pursuit of strong recommendations to improve our system of PreK-12 grade education,” Canavero said.

The Bellwether feedback is consistent with the official Peer Review feedback the Department received from the United States Department of Education nearly two weeks ago. Department staff is working to respond to USED and will submit our revisions on Wednesday, June 28. The Department anticipates formal approval of our ESSA plan in early August.
