Welcome and Announcements

Gary Obermeyer, Monday Oct 22, 2007, 03:29 pm

Welcome to the NDE Administrators Forum. We are setting up a series of online conversations with members of the PLC Community - working on specific, real-life leadership issues. Our goal is to provide practical, job-embedded professional development in the context of actual Nevada schools.

In effect, we will build on the experience of the PLC Stories, but with more focus and more structured follow-up. Each two-week forum will explore a specific issue/question, unpack a theory of change and generate possible actions. Each resulting discussion thread will remain in place for occasional updates and discoveries on the specific issue/question.

This thread will be used for announcements and instructions.

Our first forum (Oct 22-Nov 2) features Dr. Christy Beaird, Principal at William E. Ferron Elementary, in Clark County. Her question has do to with the development of teacher leadership and teacher efficacy. You are invited to help Christy design an action plan for developing PLC Facilitators.

Click on the "Admin Forum" link, then on the thread titled Developing PLC Facilitators to participate.

This is a heads-up to let you know that Ray Parks is preparing to launch a new thread in the Admin Forum. His question is: How do we keep teachers and staff engaged in the change process - especially in the face of NCLB-related mandates?

We will follow the same format as was established with the earlier topics. Ray will post an initial theory of change along with some background to provide context. Then, he will more or less "think out loud" sharing new insignts and learnings along the way. You are invited to share your thoughts/perspectives and learn along with Ray.

    Improved Admin Forum

OK. let's try this again...  I am assured that the the email notifications are set to strip out the html code.  So, we have the best of both worlds... the ability to format text and embed images in the Forum, and legible email notification.

While I've got your attention, let me remind you that we are looking for new topic ideas and new guest "presenters" for the forum.

If you've been thinking about a question that you want to explore please send a quick reply to this email.  I'll be happy to give you a call and help you frame the topic.

    Gary
